The All Night Café is inspired by the All Night Café in Camberley. It will be running overnight Friday and Saturday during the months of November and December. Guests receive a hot meal and place to sleep for the night.
This is what founder, Grace Gomez, had to say about the idea after visiting the All Night Cafe in Camberley:
I want to say a massive thank you to all of you who have helped to make the Queens Arms happen. It was overwhelming yesterday being there while Piaroo’s Wish got busy serving those who are homeless and in need from the Queens Arms.
As we are nearing the end of the refurbishment we are going to start planning how we will deliver services.
Myself and 3 other trustees went to visit the All Night Cafe in Camberley last Saturday evening. We were given such a warm welcome, even by Stanley, the resident dog!
Carole who founded the Cafe with Ade, was busy cooking in the kitchen when re arrived. The room was already set up and ready to welcome their guests.
There were about 8 people who had booked in by the time we left just before midnight, 3 of them female. The youngest looked around 20, the eldest looked 50.
All of then them had a set of circumstances in their lives the ended in them becoming homeless. All of them, any of them could be you or me, someones sister, brother, mother, father, aunt, uncle, child, wife…..people, just people all grateful for a warm safe place to stay. We shared a meal and played a very long game of UNO! Some of the service users settled down on their beds, some on their phones while others had dozed off.
New Beginnings Reading will be launching an All Night Cafe from the Queens Arms. This really is the fulfillment of 5 years of not giving on the desire to help those who are homeless. We are thinking to pilot the scheme for 2/3 nights to see how it will all work and to find the best way of helping.
We will be looking work with the existing services in Reading to support those who are homeless.
We need your help! What I have realised in all of this is how much people want to help. We have seen it with our own eyes in our town centre, we have read the countless stories about homelessness soaring, some of us have been involved face to face with those who are homeless by volunteering at one of the may good services that Reading already provide.
We are proposing to hold 2 meetings to bring together people who want to help. Would you like to be involved? We will need people to come in from 9pm to cook and set up, register and welcome our service users, people to do a middle shift sleep in until morning then a team to come in to serve breakfast and clear away.
Please contact us if you would like to be involved in the setting up or running of the All Night Cafe at The Queens Arms.
Thanking you all in advance for your love and support.
