New Beginnings Reading host a number of services and user groups at the Queens Arms on Great Knolly Street.
Current services and groups
The Way Ministry serve a home cooked dinner for single homeless and vulnerable adults every Sunday afternoon. Free clothing is also be available along with signposting and fellowship. A listening ear and support is always served alongside a hearty meal.
The After School Café provides homeless or in need families with children a safe place to stay and play after school. Activities such as cooking, imaginative play and crafts are on offer for the children to take part in. The Queens Arms has a spacious garden for parents and children to enjoy. Support and signposting is on offer for parents, and help with homework for the children. Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
The Cafe is open for families every Wednesday from 3.15pm to 6pm during school term and 2pm to 4pm during school holidays.
After the success of the All Night Café in December 2018, New Beginnings Reading are reopening their night shelter for the homeless. Restarting on Friday 5th April 2019 it will be offering guests a hot meal and a place to stay every Friday and Saturday night.
The Queens Arms is now stocking fresh and non-perishable food, available for anyone in the Reading area who is need. New Beginnings Reading Fridge for the Community is open every Wednesday and Friday between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, and is managed by a team of volunteers.
Upcoming services and groups
The shop will be offering pre-owned household goods, adult and children’s clothing and household items to those in need. Pre-owned school uniforms will also be on offer to families in need. We will be operating on a ‘pay what you can afford’ basis. Pay what you can afford, if you can’t afford it then it’s free!
